Baseball: Trio of Falcons earn all-conference recognition

A trio of Cerritos College baseball players earned all-South Coast Conference honors at the post-season meeting with all of the coaches. Freshman starting pitcher Franky Lopez (Dominguez HS), as well as first baseman/outfielder Dean Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS) received 2nd Team accolades, while freshman first baseman/designated hitter Ryan Skjonsby (Long Beach Poly HS) was an Honorable Mention selection.

Lopez, who led the conference with an 0.82 ERA, was 0-2 on the mound with 26 strikeouts and only 24 hits in 33 innings of work in SCC play. He received a no-decision against El Camino College after tossing eight shutout innings and striking out four batters. Lopez also tossed five shutout innings against East Los Angeles College, while in 18 of his innings during conference, play, he did not allow an earned run.

For Ormonde, who was selected as a utility player, he batted .333 with seven RBI and three doubles. He concluded the season on a five-game hitting streak (9-for-21; .429) and had eight multi-hit games in conference action. He recorded a season-high 4-for-4- game against Pasadena City College.

Skjonsby, who concluded the season by going 4-for-4 in the last game of the season, led the team in conference play by batting .406 with three home runs and 15 walks, while also driving in 10 runs and clubbed three triples. Additionally, Skjonsby struck out only four times in 83 plate appearances. He had a season-long 13-game hitting streak during the season, with 10 of those games coming in SCC action. He also recorded nine multi-hit games in the 18 conference games in which he appeared.
