Needing four runs in the top of the ninth inning to get back in the game, the Cerritos College baseball team came up a run short in a 6-5 South Coast Conference loss at Long Beach City College on Thursday. The Falcons (10-28, 6-17) close out their season at Kincaid Field at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Cerritos opened the top of the ninth inning with sophomore second baseman Andy Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS) drawing a walk, with sophomore third baseman Carlos Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS/Los Angeles Harbor College) clubbing a double to put runners at second and third base. Freshman outfielder Nico Briones (Long Beach Millikan HS) then tripled both runners home, followed by an RBI single from sophomore outfielder Dean Ormonde (Long Beach Millikan HS). The game ended with the Falcons hitting into a double play.

Trailing 4-0 heading into the top of the seventh inning, freshman outfielder Anthony Godfrey (Long Beach Millikan HS) singled, followed by freshman shortstop AJ Gonzalez (Torrance HS) drawing a walk. After freshman outfielder Isaac Vega (Mary Star of the Sea HS) advanced both runners with a sacrifice bunt, Andy Vega drove in Godfrey with a single. Gonzalez was able to score when the Vikings looked to limit Andy Vega to a single.

Ormonde led the team by going 3-for-4 with a walk and RBI, while Andy Vega and Godfrey each added a pair of hits.
