M. Water Polo: Pair earns All-American honors

In a season where the Cerritos College men's water polo team posted a 19-14 record and qualified for the Southern California Regional Playoffs, a pair of players earned All-American honors. Goalie Zachary Jenkins (La Serna HS) and sophomore driver Kevin Elizarraraz (Buena Park HS) each received All-American recognition. Additionally, freshman Brian Luque-Gutierrez (Salazar y Herrera, Colombia) was an All-Southern California Honorable Mention selection.

Jenkins concluded his illustrious Falcon career as a two-time All-American, two-time 1st Team All-Southern California and two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selection. As for Elizarraraz, he was also a 2nd Team All-Southern California choice this year, as well as a 1st Team All-South Coast Conference pick. In addition to his All-SOuthern California recognition, Luque-Gutierrez was also a 2nd Team all-conference pick.

Kevin Elizarraraz was named All-American in 2019 In his career, Jenkins recorded 325 saves as a sophomore, which is the second most in a season in school history, while his 55.9 save percentage set a new single-season school record. He also recorded 538 career saves, which ranks him second in school history. Elizarraraz (pictured, left) will also have his name strewn throughout the college's record book, which includes placing his name eighth in career goals (139) and ninth in career steals (102). He also ends his Cerritos career ranking sixth with 96 career exclusions, while his 60 assists puts him in the top 20. As for his numbers this year, he posted 79 goals, which is the 13th most in a season and finishes tied for seventh with 49 exclusions drawn this year.

Also earning South Coast Conference recognition were freshman John Gomez (La Serna HS), who was a 2nd Team pick, while the duo of sophomore Nik Klimpfinger (Los Alamitos HS) and freshman Seamus MacDonald (Long Beach Millikan HS) were honorable mention choices.
