Sophomore Jacob Colon (Schurr HS), who set a new school-record with 99 exclusions drawn, was one of two Cerritos College men's water polo players to earn All-American honors. Colon, also a two-time 1st Team All-South Coast Conference selection, was joined by sophomore Tim Robles (Schurr HS), who was named 2nd Team All-American and 1st Team all-conference for the second straight season. They represented a trio of Falcons who were named 1st Team all-conference, while two others were 2nd Team and honorable mention choices. Cerritos finished the season 17-13 on the year and were one win away from advancing to the 3C2A State Championships.
Along with his school-record exclusions drawn, Colon was second on the team with 78 goals, as well as 41 assists and 56 steals. He scored in 27 of the Falcons 30 games, which included a season-high seven goals against Ventura College, along with five goals against El Camino College and Saddleback College. He also registered a season-high four assists in three different games and had a season-high five steals against Golden West College and Saddleback. A threat in front of the net, Colon drew eight exclusions against Long Beach City College and had seven in another game against the Vikings. He posted at least four of them 13 times.
Robles, the team leader in goals (88) and steals (73), also added 32 assists, while he drew 80 exclusions and led the team with 25 field blocks. His 80 exclusions drawn are the fifth most in a season in school history. Also starting all 30 games, Robles scored a season-high six goals three times and posted a season-high eight steals against Rio Hondo College. He had at least four steals in nine different games, while he recorded six exclusions drawn against Los Angeles Valley College and Long Beach City.
Also earning 1st Team all-conference honors for the second consecutive season was goalkeeper Diego Campos (Downey HS). He ends his Falcon career with 474 saves, which ranks fourth in school history and includes 254 saves this season. Campos went 15-13 in net on the year and turned away a season-high 16 shots in three of the final six games of the year. He posted double-digit saves in each of the last eight games and also scored a goal on offense against the Denver Masters Club team. Campos also assisted on nine goals.
The duo of Johan Gaytan (Downey HS) and Guillermo De La Mora (La Serna HS) received 2nd Team all-conference recognition, while Declan Nelson (Corona HS) and Isaiah Wright (Whittier HS) were named honorable mention. Gaytan recorded 38 goals on the year with 16 assists and 16 steals, while De La Mora finished with 36 goals, 35 assists and 28 steals. Gaytan scored a season-high four goals against Mt. San Antonio College, while De La Mora posted four goals against Saddleback College and assisted on seven goals against Mt SAC. Nelson led the team with 44 assists to go along with 24 goals and 23 assists, which included three assists in five different games. Wright capped off the season with 14 goals, 22 assists and 21 steals, as he had three goals against Chaffey College and assisted on four goals against Merced College.
