M. Cross Country: Falcons place third at conference championships

Running the four-mile course at Ken Malloy Harbor Regional Park in Harbor City on Friday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team compiled 66 team points to finish in third place on the day. The Falcons will now run in the Southern California Championships at El Dorado Park in Long Beach next Friday.

Running as a tight pair during the race were Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS) and Tyler Villanueva (Warren HS), who finished within two seconds of each other. Melendez completed the course in a time of 22:00.4, while Villanueva was right behind in a time of 22:02.8. They were followed closely by Jacob Cosio (California HS), whose time of 22:09.7 put him in 20th place out of the 99 total runners on the day. 

There was a slight dropoff in the next two Falcon runners, who finish helped compile the team scoring. Posted a 23rd place time of 22:28.8 was Noah Addison (Long Beach Poly HS), and was followed by Luke Dias (Fountain Valley HS), with a clocking of 22:53.9, which put him in 29th place overall.

Cerritos had 11 other runners to complete the course and included Matthew Alvarez (Warren HS; 22:59.9; 32nd place), Marcus Hughes (Carson HS; 23:00.3; 33rd place), Edwin Matias (Bell Gardens HS; 23:43.8; 40th place), Aiden House-Ortiz (Lakewood HS; 24:18.2; 49th place), Joseph Melendez (St. Paul HS; 24:18.5; 50th place), David Morales (El Rancho HS; 24:20.1; 51st place), Shanal De Silva (Warren HS; 24:39.0; 57trh place), Jeff Chmiel (Lakewood HS; 26:03.0; 71st place), Angel Serrano (Legacy HS; 26:05.9; 72nd place), Justin Smith (Lakewood HS; 26:19.1; 78th place) and Jose Ortiz (Norwalk HS; 27:08.7; 82nd place).
