After a 10-year absence, Nicole (McCarthy) Hyde returned to the
Cerritos College coaching staff in 2013-14, where she spent one
season (2003-04) and is starting her second season. As a member of
the Falcon women’s basketball team from 2001-02, Hyde was a
2nd Team All-South Coast Conference selection her sophomore
season after averaging 7.7 points, 2.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds a
game. During the 2002-03 season, Hyde led the team in
three-pointers made (57) and shot 39% from long distance. The team
advanced to the post-season both years, while they reached the
state semi-final game in 2001-02 and finished with a school-record
29 wins against six losses.
After completing her sophomore season, Hyde stayed with the
Cerritos program during the 2003-04 season to serve as an assistant
coach, and the team won the conference title, but where eliminated
in the first round of the playoffs. She concluded her playing
career, but continued her education at Cal State Long Beach, and
earned a Bachelor’s degree in 2008 in Liberal Studies with an
emphasis in Elementary Education. Hyde then went on to complete her
Master’s degree in Education from Whittier College in
2010.
Hyde got into coaching at La Mirada High and spent four years as
the varsity basketball coach from 2009-13, and led them to a pair
of CIF Playoff appearances. As a prep player at La Mirada, she
spent four years on the basketball team and was their team captain
three straight seasons and earned 1st Team All-Suburban League
honors as a senior.
Nicole and her husband Chad Hyde have been married four years and
live in Long Beach.
