After spending the 2020-22 seasons as the Associate Head Coach of the Mt. San Antonio College women’s soccer team, Rachel Schmid enters her first season as a member of the Cerritos College coaching staff. She helped lead the Mounties to an overall record of 16-3-6 and broke a 25-year school state championships drought, taking them all the way to the CCCAA State Championship Semi-Finals where they lost to eventual champion, Hartnell College, 2-1.

Schmid, who has also been coaching the Beach FC team since 2020, also served on the coaching staff of the L.A. Galaxy Girls Academy as head coach of the U19’s (2018-2020 season), as well as the academies Sports Performance Coach since 2017. As a sports performance coach, she facilitates all aspects of the team's performance including warm up, speed & agility, weightlifting, fitness, performance testing, gap programs, recover/regeneration and all other physical preparation. She has also worked as a coach with United States Soccer Federation (USSF) Camps.  

Prior to working with the L.A. Galaxy she also served as an assistant coach with the UC Irvine women’s soccer program (2016-17), Fullerton College (2016-17), Fullerton Rangers Youth Soccer Club (2016-19) and Marymount California University (2012-2016). 

She has also served as a sports performance coach with Velocity Sports Performance (2013-15) and as an administrative assistant for the Cal State Fullerton women’s soccer team (2012).

Schmidt currently runs Schmid Akadmie (formerly S3P), a sports performance company that also provides college prep summer fitness camps.

Schmidt prepped at Mission Viejo High, where she led the team as team captain and captured a CIF SS Championship in 2002, and then continued her career and education at UC Irvine where she played from 2005-2008 as a defender and also led the team as captain. After college, she continued playing professionally for the Los Angeles Strikers FC in the W-League from 2011-2013.   

Schmid received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology from UC Irvine and her Master of Science Degree in Kinesiology from Cal State Fullerton. She currently holds a USSF National “B” Coaching License and is a Certified Strength Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

Schmid and her husband Kyle have been married for 10 years and have three children – Elliott (7), Arthur (5) and Birdie (2). Schmid’s husband is also the men's soccer associate head coach at Loyola Marymount University.
