Knowing they need to win the remainder of their games for a chance at a playoff bid, the Cerritos College football team committed three turnovers, which played a huge role in the team's 34-31 loss to host Bakersfield College. The Falcons (5-3, 2-2) saw the Renegades (4-4, 2-2) recover a fumble at their own four-yard line to thwart a scoring drive, while a blocked punt in the second quarter gave them a 27-10 lead late in the first half.

Cerritos saw Bakersfield take a 13-0 lead early in the first quarter when Darren Adjeh scooped up a Joseph Donnell (McNair HS/Sacramento City College) fumble and score from 24 yards out. The extra point was blocked by David Fangupo (Kealakehe, HI HS) and freshman Anthony Murray (Cherokee Trail, CO HS) picked it up and returned it for two points. Late in the second quarter, Justin Nieto recovered a blocked punt by freshman Corey Bojorquez (Mayfair HS) in the end zone, which gave the Renegades a 27-10 lead.

With no running game to speak of for the majority of the game, Cerritos started to move the ball in the fourth quarter. The Falcons closed their deficit to 27-17 in the third quarter when an interception and 39-yard touchdown by freshman Tytus Simmons (Artesia HS) with 4:51 left looked like the beginning of a comeback. However, Bakersfield responded with a touchdown drive of their own for a 34-17 advantage with :08 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

With 8:38 left in he fourth quarter, the Falcons embark on a 12-play, 76-yard drive that included a 10-yard run by freshman running back Robert Gordon (Terrebonne, LA HS) on third down. Donnell handled the final 11 yards, including a one-yard run with 4:33 left, and the drive resulted in Cerritos rushing for 53 yards.

The Renegades recovered the ensuing onside kick, but the Cerritos defense forced a three-and out and regained the ball at their own 24-yard line with 3:34 left. Faced with fourth and 20, Donnell pulled down a one-handed catch from freshman Alexander Cuevas (Culver City HS) and raced 52 yards to the Bakersfield five-yard line. The Falcons ran the ball twice for negative yards until Gordon punched the ball in from six yards out. On the ensuing onside kick, the ball was knocked loose, but Khalil Ealy recovered the ball for Bakersfield, who ran out the clock.

On the day, freshman quarterback Jimmy Walker (Redlands HS) completed only 7-of-17 passes for 139 yards, while Cuevas came on to throw for 94 yards on six completions. Walker was injured in the second half and had to come out of the game. The Falcons did finish with 148 yards on the ground, with Gordon (54 yards) and Donnell (44) leading the way. Sophomore linebackers Aaron Porter (La Habra HS/UCLA) and Erick Zarate (Long Beach Jordan HS) combined for 19 tackles. Freshman defensive back Steven White (Manchester, VA HS) posted seven tackles, while as a team, the Falcons had nine quarterback sacks and nine tackles for loss.

With his 82 receiving yards on the day, sophomore wide receiver Domonique Young (Long Beach Jordan HS) broke the school's single-season receiving yards record. He how has 761 yards, which breaks the old mark of 760 yards set by Michael Wilie in 2009. Young's 41 receptions are closing in on the record of 50 by wide receivers coach Joshua Robbins in 2008, while his seven receiving touchdowns is three away from tying the record of 10 set in 1991 by Cliff Parks.
