During the regular season, the Cerritos College football team posted a 7-3 record, with their three losses being by a combined 10 points. The key loss was a 35-31 setback to eventual National Division Northern Conference champion Ventura College (6-4), who earned the right to advance to the four-team Southern California Regional Playoffs. As for the Falcons, they received a bowl bid and will host Santa Barbara City College (7-3) at 7:00 p.m. on November 22 in the Golden State Bowl. Tickets for the game can be purchased that night and cost $10 for General Admission and $8 for seniors, students with current ID and children under 12.

Golden State Bowl logo The Teams: Cerritos comes into the bowl game riding a two-game winning streak, which includes a 27-21 win over College of the Canyons in their final regular season game on Saturday. The Falcons finished the regular season ranked #6 in the National Division. The Vaqueros, who opened the season 7-1, dropped their last two games of the season to finish in third place in the American Division Pacific Conference. Those losses were to first place Santa Monica (37-21) and second place Glendale (47-14). This marks the first bowl game for Santa Barbara City since 1997 and they have a career 1-10-1 record. It will be just the third meeting ever between the two teams, with the Falcons posting wins in 1957 (41-0) and 1983 (41-7).

The Coaches: Frank Mazzotta is in his 37th season at the helm of the Falcons and he's compiled a 236-148-6 record. This is the 22nd post-season game he has led his team to and he owns an 11-10 record, including a win 66-34 win over Grossmont College in the Western State Bowl last year. Santa Barbara's Craig Moropoulos is in his eighth season as the head coach and he has posted a 29-51 record, including back-to-back 7-3 records.

When Cerritos Has The Ball: Offensively, the Falcons are led by the tandem of freshman quarterback Jimmy Walker (Redlands HS) and sophomore wide receiver Domonique Young (Long Beach Jordan HS). Walker has completed 142-of-273 passes for 2,171 yards and 23 touchdowns, with Young pulling in 50 of those passes for a school-record 921 yards and nine touchdowns. Sophomore Justin Caines (La Habra HS) has 26 receptions and seven touchdowns, with seven different players catching at least one touchdown pass.

On the ground, Cerritos has three quality running backs, led by sophomore Travis Newberry (Bellflower HS) with 592 yards, while sophomores Joseph Donnell (McNair HS/Sacramento City College) and DeVonte Carter (Dominguez HS) have combined for 704 yards and 11 TDs. Freshman Robert Gordon (Terrebonne, LA HS) has also stepped in at times and has averaged 6.6 yards on 30 carries.

Jacob Girgle has a team-high 60 tackles and three interceptions from his cornerback position, with the defensive line trio of Brandon Nicastro (51 tackles), Jay Terry (50 tackles) and Ezra Taylor (42 tackles) combining for 28 1/2 tackles for loss.

When Santa Barbara City Has The Ball: For the Vaqueros, freshman quarterback Brandon Edwards has thrown for 1,805 yards and 17 touchdowns with freshman wide receiver Elijah King leading the way with 53 receptions for 630 yards and seven touchdowns. Sophomore running back Cedric Cooper leads their ground game with 588 yards and six touchdowns, while they also turn to Cheroke Cunningham (354 yards) and Orion Prescott (281 yards). Blake Levin is a quality kicker who has converted 7-of-8 field goals and 31-of-33 extra points, with a long field goal of 48 yards.

Despite missing the last game with an injury, sophomore linebacker Aaron Porter (La Habra HS/UCLA) leads the team with 75 tackles, with sophomore linebacker Erick Zarate (Long Beach Jordan HS) right behind with 72 stops. The Falcons have 31 quarterback sacks and 67 tackles for loss on the team with sophomore defensive end Alex Jones (Maple Heights, OH HS/Eastern Michigan) leading the team in both categories. In the game and a half that Porter has missed, freshman Michael Hannifin (San Pedro HS) has posted 17 tackles. In the secondary, freshman Anthony Murray (Cherokee Trail, CO HS) is third on the team with 60 tackles and leads the team with five interceptions. He also averages 16.2 yards on punt returns.
