Former Cerritos College men's basketball Jay Merriweather, a senior at Pacific (OR) University, was named the Northwest Conference Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week. Merriweather, who played for the Falcons from 2014-16, posted his first career double-double with a career-high 28 points and 11 rebounds in the win over Lewis & Clark (OR) College. Merriweather and the Pacific men's basketball team are off to an 8-0 start for the second time in school history. The last eight game-winning streak for Pacific was in 1996-97 as the Boxers went on to win the Northwest Conference and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament.

On the year, Merriweather is averaging a team-leading 16.4 points and 6.0 rebounds a game, while converting 52% of his field goals and 88% of his free throws. He also recorded 21 points with nine rebounds against Multnomah (OR) University and finished with 20 points against The Evergreen State (WA) College.

While with the Falcons, Merriweather played in all 31 games as a sophomore and came off the bench in all but four games, as the Falcons won the South Coast Conference South Division and advanced to the second round of the Southern California Regional Playoffs. He averaged 3.6 points and 2.5 rebounds a game, while connecting on 90% of his free throws. Expected to be a red-shirt his freshmen year, he appeared in 23 games and made 16 starts. Merriweather averaged 8.6 points and 2.2 rebounds, while finishing second on the team with 29 three-pointers and shot 46% from long range and 51% overall.
