M. Basketball: Jonathan Guzman signs with Hope International

After helping the Cerritos College men's basketball team advance to the CCCAA semifinal game, sophomore forward Jonathan Guzman (Paramount HS) has signed a Letter of Intent to transfer to Hope International University. Guzman averaged 9.2 points and 6.2 rebounds a game for the Falcons (27-6) and was named All-South Coast Conference South Division. He scored in double-digits in each of the team's four playoff games and converted 20-of-26 (.769) shots from the field, which included going 6-for-6 against Santiago Canyon College. On the season, Guzman led the state in field goal percentage (.661), while he also converted 73% of his free throws.

Guzman (left, signing with Hope International) posted a season-high 20 points against Long Beach City College, while accounting for 19 points against San Diego City College. He scored in double-figures in 12 of the last 15 games of the season, while he pulled down a career-high 18 rebounds in another game against Long Beach City.

"I'm glad to be a part of the family here…I do want to try and play professionally, but I also want to become a professor and give back," said Guzman to the Hope International website.

He will be joining a Royals team that went 25-6 last season and qualified for the NAIA National Championship Tournament. Their season ended with a 68-60 setback against Our Lady of the Lake University in the first round.
