Entering South Coast Conference play, the Cerritos College men's soccer team had not won a game and were looking for their first goal in three games. They solved the first issue in the sixth minute and then went on to post a 4-3 win at Long Beach City College on Tuesday afternoon. The win by the Falcons (1-5-2, 1-0-0) comes on the heels of their slowest start in head coach Benny Artiaga's storied history. The team will look to build on their success on Friday at 4:00 p.m. when they host Los Angeles Harbor College in another conference game.

The scoring started for Cerritos when freshman Mark Cruz (El Toro HS) sent a pass to freshman Nathan Martin (Long Beach Millikan HS), who gave the team an early lead. That advantage would hold up until the Vikings (4-3-1, 0-1-0) tied the game in the 17th minute.

But what turned out to be the difference in the game was the quick strike goals the Falcons produced at the start of the second half, which broke a 2-2 tie and gave the team a two-goal advantage. After Cruz gave the team a 2-1 lead in the 44th minute, LBCC tied the game less than a minute later right before the halftime whistle.

In the second half, Cerritos jumped on two scoring chances and didn't miss on either, as Francisco Orozco (Los Angeles Jordan HS) and Ricardo Colin (Jefferson HS) scored five minutes apart. Sophomore Christian Carrillo (Katella HS) connected with Orozco on the first goal of the second half, while Cruz capped his four-point game with a helper on the eventual-game winning goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jaime Sanchez (Aspire Pacific Academy HS), who made four saves, saw a ball in the 66th minute get past him to put the game at 4-3. But neither team could find the back of the net the remainder of the game, and the Falcons came away with their first win of the season.
