In a game that was delayed for two hours due to the dangerous heat index, the Cerritos College men's soccer team saved their hottest play for the final minute of the game. On Friday at Pasadena City College, the Falcons (3-5-3, 3-0-1) remained unbeaten in South Coast Conference play with their 2-1 win over the Lancers. With the game tied at 1-1, freshman Austin DeMedeiros (Gahr HS) picked up a goal for the second game in a row, as he scored on a spectacular header in the 89th minute to win the game.

On the play, freshman Jason Orejel (Long Beach Wilson HS) sent a ball toward the Pasadena City (0-9-2, 0-3-1) goal in an attempt to send the ball deep into Lancer territory and give the team a chance to get off a good shot. Little did he know that his kick would be directed past Lancer goalkeeper Yusuf Elmasri on a header by DeMedeiros. He scored the team's lone goal in a 1-1 draw with rival Mt. San Antonio College on Tuesday.

Cerritos took a 1-0 lead in the game in the 11th minute on a header by Ulysses Rojas off a nice lofting pass from Mark Cruz (El Toro HS) from 25 yards out. Prior to the end of the first half, PCC was awarded a penalty kick, which was converted by Artin Almary past sophomore goalkeeper Jaime Sanchez (Aspire Pacific Academy HS), who made six saves on the day.

Pasadena City outshot the Falcons 16-14, with Cruz seeing four of his six shots land on goal. Next up for the Falcons, who are tied for first place with ECC Compton Center, is a 4:00 p.m. game against visiting East Los Angeles College (5-1-5, 2-0-2).
