M. Swimming: Cerritos splits conference meet

The Cerritos College men's swimming team split their South Coast Conference meet on Friday, as they defeated Los Angeles Trade-Tech (227-20), but were defeated by Mt. San Antonio College, 222-58. The Falcons will now travel to Rio Hondo College on Friday to take on the Roadrunners and Long Beach City College in another conference meet.

The team had three second place finishes in the meet, with freshman Marlon Moreno (Colegio Virgen def Rosario, Venezuela HS) earning two of them. His time of 57.17 was one second off the winning time in the 100-yard backstroke, while he was also edged in the 50-yard freestyle. Moreno's time of 22.86 was just shy of the winning time of 22.48, turned in by Mt. SAC's Jaye Chang.

In the diving event, freshman Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS) compiled 159.39 points, which put him in second place, with teammate Richard Park (Gahr HS) in fourth place at 132.30 points.

The 200-yard medley relay team of Moreno, Alan Pae (Kennedy HS), Marcus Delgado (La Serna HS) and Henry Rodriguez (Downey HS) finished with a second place time of 1:44.93. It was a third place time of 3:27.36 in the 400-yard freestyle for the quartet of Moreno, Fernando Lua (Gahr HS), Rodriguz and Delgado.

Freshman Diego Lucas (Warren HS) saw his time of 1:58.30 in the 200-yard freestyle earn him a third place, while Pae also came in third place in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.84. Rodriguez finished right behind Moreno in the 50-yard freestyle with his time of 22.97, with Rodriguez posting a time of 51.57 to take third in the 100-yard freestyle.
