With four events completed at the South Coast Conference Prelims, the Cerritos College men's track and field team currently sits in second place with 22 team points. Additionally, three Falcons have advanced to the Southern California Prelims, which will take place at Cerritos College on May 3. The conference championships are slated for Friday at El Camino College.

Of the events that were finals on Tuesday, the Falcons qualified an athlete in two throwing events and a long distance event. In the hammer, sophomore Daniel Chavez (Los Alamitos HS) finished in second place with a distance of 40.39 meters, which is a season-best. He will be joined at the SoCal Prelims by freshman Luke Johnson (Paramount HS), whose fifth place distance of 43.46 meters was six inches better than the sixth place finisher. The top six in each of the events advanced. 

In the 10,000 meters, freshman Robert Guerrero (Long Beach Poly HS) ran the event for the first time all season and finished in sixth place with a time of 33.27.70.

In prelim events, the Falcons saw freshman sprinter Sebastian Lopez (Downey HS) post the third fastest time of the day in the 100 meters when he was clocked in 10.88, while freshman Te'Quan Chatman (Fort Myers, FL) posted a fifth place time of 10.94. Sophomore Jordan Crowdus (Cabrillo HS) turned in a personal best time of 48.67 to come in second place in the 400 meters, while freshman Tyler Villanueva (Warren HS) finished in sixth place in the 800 meters in a time of 1:58.60. The 1500 meter race saw freshman Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS) come in third place with a time of 4:18.10.

Sophomore Juan Ward (Paramount HS), who set the school record in the 110-meters in 2015 at 14.15, recorded a time of 15.13 to come in second place on the day. In the 400-meter IH, freshman Elijah Jones (Long Beach Jordan HS) was clocked in 56.04, which put him in sixth place.
