It was a battle for second place at the South Coast Conference Championships and the Cerritos College men's track and field team was able to secure that position. With Mt. San Antonio College winning the title, the Falcons (100.5 team points) were able to hold off both Long Beach City College (84.33 points) and El Camino College (81.5 points). Next Saturday, the team will serve as hosts of the Southern California Prelims.

Sophomore thrower Daniel Chavez (Los Alamitos HS) had a great day for the Falcons, as he won the shot put with a distance of 12.66 meters and finished in second place in the hammer with a personal best throw of 40.39 meters. Cerritos will have six entries in the field events, with 10 more in running events. Additionally, the Falcons will be represented by both relay teams and two will compete in the decathlon.

In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Jordan Crowdus (Cabrillo HS), Caleb Dunomes (Long Beach Poly HS), Konnor Handy (St. John Bosco HS) and Elijah Jones (Long Beach Jordan HS) recorded a second place time of 3:15.25, while distance runner Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS) advanced in a pair of events. He posted a second place time of 4:06.22 in the 1500 meters, while his time of 15:18.62 put him in fourth place in the 5000 meters.
