W. Basketball: Falcons put it all together in win

Coming off a heartbreaking overtime loss at home on Wednesday night, the Cerritos College women's basketball team regrouped and turned in a 27-point win. The Falcons (14-7) went to Pasadena City College on Friday night and recorded a 67-40 South Coast Conference crossover win, as the team hit 11 three-pointers. The team will travel to East Los Angeles College on Wednesday for a 5:00 p.m. conference crossover game.

A pair of Ashley Flores (California HS) layups and a free throw in the second quarter gave Cerritos a 21-17 lead with 2:17 remaining. That was followed by a three-pointer from sophomore Verenice Gomez (Whittier HS), which put the team up by six points (25-19). Gomez, who netted four three-pointers on the night, hit another with :29 seconds left in the first half to give the team a 30-20 advantage going into intermission.

Cerritos continued to score points from the outside, as sophomore Clarissa Hernandez (St Paul HS) and freshman Alysson O'Brien (La Habra HS) each drained a pair of three-pointers, which allowed the team to hold a 46-30 lead heading into the final 10 minutes. The Falcons outscored the Lancers (11-9), 21-10 in the fourth quarter, with O'Brien making two more treys.

On the night, O'Brien led the team with 15 points, while Gomez finished with 13 points and eight rebounds, as each of them converted four three-pointers. Hernandez, who dished out six assists, produced 12 points, with Flores leading the team with 12 rebounds to go with her nine points.

As a team, the Falcons out-rebounded Pasadena City, 60-40, with 27 of their caroms on the offensive end. Sophomore Chyann Richard (Serra HS/San Diego Christian College) came off the bench to pull down nine rebounds, while four different players scored four points each.
