W. Tennis: Falcons win third match in a row

On Friday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team picked up their third win in a row, as they defeated host Grossmont College, 9-0. The Falcons (10-1) will play their next four matches at home and start with a 2:00 p.m. South Coast Conference match against Rio Hondo College on Tuesday.

Moving into the #1 spot on the singles ladder for the first time this season was sophomore Anastasia Khomyachenko (Sochi, Russia), who had her hands full with Matilda Doufrense. After earning a tough 6-4 win in the first set, Khomyachenko was defeated, 0-6, which forced a tie-breaker and a hard-fought 10-8 win. Sophomore Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) played at #2 for the first time this season and handed Errica Corvera a 6-3, 6-1 decision.

The duo of freshman Tiffany Sanchez (Long Beach Wilson HS) and sophomore Jovana Milosevic (High School of Business and Law, Serbia) each picked up 6-1, 6-1 win, while freshman Valentina Polonyi (Altisa, Hungary) received a default win when her opponent failed to show up in the allotted amount of time. Freshman Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS) kept the shutout intact with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the #6 position.

Doubles play saw Milosevic and Pastor earn a convincing 8-0 win, while Sanchez and Polonyi pulled out an 8-4 win. In the #1 position, Heath and Khomyachenko held out against Doufrense and Corvera for an 8-6 win.
