W. Tennis: Falcons record fifth straight shutout win

For the fifth match in a row, the Cerritos College women's tennis team defeated their opponent by a 9-0 score. The Falcons (14-1, 8-0), who were ranked #1 in Southern California in the latest ITA poll, defeated host Long Beach City College on Thursday. The team will now travel to Fresno this weekend to face the host Rams on Friday at 2:00 p.m., followed by a 10:00 a.m. match on Saturday against Reedley College.

Cerritos posted a trio of 8-1 wins in doubles play to start the day and followed that with three 6-0, 6-0 wins in the first three positions on the singles ladder. Sophomores Taylor Heath (Cerritos HS) and Anastasia Khomyachenko (Sochi, Russia) earned shutout wins in singles and paired up for a doubles win. As for freshman Tiffany Sanchez (Long Beach Wilson HS), her 6-0, 6-0 singles win was preceded by her doubles victory with partner, freshman Valentina Polonyi (Altisa, Hungary).

Sophomore Jovana Milosevic (High School of Business and Law, Serbia/Hillsborough, FL CC) won her singles match, 6-0, 6-1, while her doubles teammate, Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS), won, 6-1, 6-2 in the #5 spot on the ladder. Playing just her sixth singles match of the season, freshman Elizabeth Aceves (Downey HS) remained undefeated after a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
