Taking on NAIA school Westmont College on Thursday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team suffered a 5-4 defeat. The Falcons (3-2), who were set to have a busy weekend in the North/South Tournament in Ventura over the weekend, will have to wait until next Tuesday for their next competition, as rain will wash out their three matches. Cerritos will host Cypress College at 2:00 p.m. in a non-conference match.

Playing against a shorthanded Westmont school, Cerritos found themselves trailing, 2-1 in the team score after doubles action. The Falcons received forfeit wins in the #6 singles and #3 doubles matches. Sophomores Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS) and Elizabeth Aceves (Downey HS) dropped a close 8-6 decision, but both came back to win in singles action. Pastor escaped her first set, 7-6 and then went on to a 6-2 for her straight set win, while Aceves earned a solid 6-2, 6-4 win against Sienna Verdult in the #4 position.

At the top of the ladder, freshmen Petra Such (Gyula Illyés, Hungary) and Diviana Bravo (Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero, Ecuador) had their toughest day of the young season. They both lost their first singles matches of the season in straight sets and were defeated, 8-2 in doubles play.
