W. Tennis: Shorthanded Cerritos still posts win

Playing with just five players, the Cerritos College women's tennis team won all of the matches that were held and posted a 7-2 win over host Rio Hondo College. The Falcons (8-4, 3-0) were forced to forfeit one of the singles and doubles matches against the Roadrunners. They will now take to the road this weekend and travel to Fresno City College for a 4:00 p.m. match on Friday. Their scheduled match against Reedley College for the following day was canceled.

The top two singles players, freshmen Petra Such (Gyula Illyés, Hungary) and Diviana Bravo (Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero, Ecuador) both posted 6-1, 6-1 straight set wins in their singles matches and teamed up for an 8-4 doubles victory. It was a pair of 6-2, 6-2 singles wins by sophomores Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montogmery HS) and Elizabeth Aceves (Downey HS) that followed in the #3 and #4 singles matches, respectively. The duo also earned an 8-1 doubles win.

In the closest match of the day, freshman Mary Navalta (Norwalk HS) came back for a three-set win over Jess Esquivel with a 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 decision.
