Falcons post 8-1 win over Fresno City

Taking to the road for a non-conference match over the weekend, the Cerritos College women's tennis team posted an 8-1 win over host Fresno City College on Friday. The Falcons (9-4) had their match against Reedley College on Saturday cancelled, and the team will next compete on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. when they host Fullerton College.

Cerritos clinched the match quickly by sweeping all six singles competitions in straight sets. The day started with the Falcons coming out on top in two of the three doubles matches, with each of them played very closely. Freshmen Petra Such (Gyula Illyés, Hungary) and Diviana Bravo (Unidad Educativa Rosa de Jesús Cordero, Ecuador) pulled out a tight 8-5 win in the #1 doubles match, while sophomores Danielle Pastor (Bishop Montgomery HS) and Elizabeth Aceves (Downey HS) earned an 8-4 victory.

In doubles play, Such recorded a 6-2, 6-0 win in the #1 position to move to 11-1 on the season, while Bravo came away with a 6-2, 6-1 victory and is now 9-1 this year. Pastor and Aceves each surrendered just four games in their straight set wins, with freshman Mary Navalta (Norwalk HS) posting a 6-4, 6-3 win in the #6 singles match. Avoiding a third set tie-breaker, sophomore Mona Navalta (Norwalk HS) defeated Cyndee Ott, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the #5 singles match.
