For the first time since the 2006 season, the Cerritos College volleyball team posted a win over Pasadena City College. The Falcons (4-6, 1-1) registered a 25-17, 25-14, 25-20 win over the Lancers (0-9, 0-2) on Wednesday in their South Coast Conference match. The team will now host Mt. San Antonio College at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

From the start of the match, the Falcons were aggressive at the net and relied heavily on the tandem of sophomores Sara Hickman (La Mirada HS) and Jasmynne Roberts (Long Beach Poly HS). In the first set, Cerritos led from beginning to end and scored the last five points to finish off the Lancers. A pair of attack errors, followed by a kill from sophomore Laura Bogarin (Firebaugh HS) set up Hickman with the winning kill.

A slow start in the second game put Cerritos behind 6-2 early on, but once they tied the match at 8-8, they never looked back. Six straight points turned a 12-11 lead into an 18-11 advantage, with Hickman earning a pair of kills along the way. Freshman Natalie Caravantes (Baldwin Park HS) closed out the win with consecutive service aces. Hickman had seven kills in the set, with Roberts accounting for six kills.

It was another cover-to-cover lead for the Falcons in the third set, as they finished off the sweep. By the end of the match, Hickman had 16 kills and 12 digs, while Roberts finished with 15 kills and 12 digs. The offense was directed by sophomore Michelle Barba (Downey HS) with 19 assists, while Caravantes added 17 assists and seven digs. Sophomore Jasmin Mitchell (Warren HS) produced six kills, with three other players contributing a pair of kills.
