The win was not only the Falcons (8-6, 5-1) fifth in a row, but it put them in sole possession of second place, as they near the end of the first round of conference play. The team will travel to Los Angeles Harbor College for a 6:00 p.m. match on Friday.

In the fifth set, the Vikings held a 13-11 advantage until sophomore Jasmynne Roberts (Long Beach Poly HS) got the team closer with a kill. A pair of kills from sophomore Sara Hickman (La Mirada HS) moved the Falcons to match point, with at attack error coming off a block by sophomore Jasmin Mitchell (Warren HS) clinching the victory.

Cerritos stayed alive with a fourth set win and led the majority of the way. They quickly scored the first four points, but eventually trailed, 14-12. With the match tied at 15-15, the Falcons produced four straight points for a 19-15 lead, with Hickman, Roberts and Lisa Villarroel (Long Beach Millian HS/LBCC) each posting kills. Four more kills by Hickman along the way kept the team in the lead and they won the match on a Viking attack error.

Roberts led all players with 27 kills and 17 digs, while Hickman contributed 17 kills and 15 digs in the win. Sophomore setter Michelle Barba (Downey HS) directed the offense with 54 assists and had 14 digs, while Mitchell played a crucial role at the net in the win.
