W. Water Polo: Team drops 7-4 decision to American River

Playing a rare night game, the Cerritos College women's water polo team dropped a 7-4 non-conference decision to visiting American River College on Thursday night. The Falcons (6-14) will now play a South Coast Conference home doubleheader next Wednesday when they take on Rio Hondo College (3:00 p.m.) and East Los Angeles College (5:15 p.m.).

Against American River (10-9), the game was tied at 1-1 in the first period after sophomore Celeste Ibarra (Gahr HS) scored with 4:49 left. Goals by the Beavers Emily Perry and Rya Minow made it a 3-1 contest at halftime. Falcon sophomore Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS) scored early in the third period to make it 3-2, but Perry scored two more times to give the ARC a 5-2 advantage.

Harvey (three goals) closed the gap to 5-3 with :21 seconds left in the third period, but Perry (five goals) and Minow (two goals) finished off the scoring for American River on the night.

Beavers goalie Avery Dotterer came up woth 11 saves to hold off the Falcons, while freshman Kristin Park (Cerritos HS) had four saves in the loss. Freshman Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS) led the team with three steals, with a trio of players finishing with two.
