The Cerritos College women's water polo team dropped both of their games on the first day of the Battle at the Beach, which took place at Cypress College on Friday. The Falcons (7-17) were defeated by Saddleback College, 18-8 and then suffered a 12-7 defeat at the hands of Cypress College. On Saturday at Long Beach City College, the team will play two more games.

Cerritos vs. Saddleback: In their loss to the Gauchos, the Falcons trailed 5-2 after the first period, but closed to within 7-5 by intermission. It was the second half which saw the offense come to a stop, as they tallied just three goals, while Saddleback scored 11 times to pull away for the win. Sophomore Carla Harvey (Potomac Falls, VA HS) scored five times in the game and the team continued to experiment in goal. Freshman Amanda Rabb (Gahr HS), who had 11 saves in the second half against East Los Angeles College two days ago, posted three saves and then moved into the field, where she added a goal. Sophomore Celeste Ibarra (Gahr HS) saw her first action of the year in goal and made three saves.

Cerritos vs. Cypress: In their first meeting of the season, the Falcons defeated the Chargers, 8-7. But on Friday, a slow first quarter resulted in a 4-0 deficit they would not be able to recover from. It was a close contest, but the first eight minutes of the match turned out to be the difference in the outcome. Harvey posted four more goals and now has 86 on the year. She's moved into sixth place in the record book for most goals in a season. The record of 106 was set by Berlyn Sanchez in 2005. Rabb did turn away six shots, while freshman Breanna Zuniga (California HS) accounted for two goals and three steals.
