Former Cerritos College baseball player Jared Robinson, who spent the last six seasons with the Cleveland Indians, has signed a minor league deal with the New York Mets. He will also get an invitation to spring training with the big league club. Robinson, 26, was an 11th round draft pick of Cleveland in the 2014 draft. Over six MiLB seasons, he has posted a 3.87 ERA with 325 strikeouts and 146 walks in 383.2 innings pitched.
In 40 appearances between High-A Lynchburg, Double-A Akron, and Triple-A Columbus in 2019, Robinson owned a 3.34 ERA with 1.30 WHIP, 97 strikeouts, and 30 walks in 70 innings of work. Robinson relies mainly on his four-seam fastball, which has touched 97 MPH, while his slider hits in the mid 80s.
As a sophomore with the Falcons, Robinson was named the South Coast Conference Player of the Year, as well as All-State. He went 10-4 on the mound with a 2.23 ERA and three saves, while getting clocked at 92-93 MPH on his fastball. He struck out 63 batters in 93 innings and won his last seven starts of the season. At the plate, Robinson hit .299 and led the team in doubles (11) and RBI (22), while he shared the team lead with two home runs and 11 stolen bases. In his freshman year, Robinson was 3-7 with one save a 3.91 ERA in 78 innings. He struck out 71 batters, while he hit .253 with seven doubles, three triple and drove in 15 runs.
