Due to the fluctuating number of COVID-19 cases, concerns of other COVID variants and the pandemic conditions in Los Angeles County, the majority of the presidents of the South Coast Conference Colleges made the difficult decision on February 26 to suspend athletic competition for traditional spring sports for the 2021 season. For Cerritos College, that meant the decision to opt out of their Spring II sports, which consists of baseball, softball, men's & women's track and men's & women's swimming.

However, on March 15, the college was approved to have all of their intercollegiate teams return to campus for social distance conditioning starting as early as March 22. Those teams returning for conditioning include the aforementioned Spring II sports, as well as football, volleyball, men's & women's soccer, men's & women's water polo, men's & women's cross country, wrestling and men's & women's basketball. Each of the teams will still need to follow state, county and college guidelines, while also adhering to guidelines put forward by the Certified Athletic Trainers. All student-athletes will need to provide a PCR test and fill out the necessary paperwork before they can officially start their conditioning. Once all of that is in place, they will all require daily temperature checks and symptom screening. Conditioning will occur outside only.

"We are excited to have the opportunity to come back to campus with our student athletes for conditioning," stated Athletics Director Maria Castro. "This has been a difficult year and I want to commend our student-athletes that have endured this past year of distant learning. Our dedicated coaches and athletic staff have worked hard to keep our student-athletes engaged and now can get back to in-person activities. This is the first step of many on our way back to competition for Falcon Athletics."
