With two regular season games remaining, the Cerritos College men's basketball team moved one step closer to clinching the South Coast Conference South Division title. The Falcons (18-8, 7-1), who shared the divisional title last season, defeated visiting El Camino College, 82-67 on Friday. They will play their final regular season home game next Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. against Compton College.
The Warriors (6-20, 1-7) were able to stay close to Cerritos through the first half (36-33) until freshman Dorian Harris (Cerritos HS) took the game over with his outside shooting. He scored the team's first nine points of the second half, while his three-pointer with 16:54 remaining put the team up, 50-38. The lead swelled to 60-42 after freshman Joshua Harrison (Onate, NM HS) connected on a three-pointer with 11:48 on the clock. He hit his next shot from long range, as the Falcons swarmed El Camino on defense and converted 14 turnovers into 18 points, with 12 of them coming in the second half.
Harris, who had a hot hand in the first half to get Cerritos going, ended up with a season-high 25 points, which included six three pointers. Penetrating the defense on three consecutive possessions, freshman Joshua Belvin (St. Anthony HS) made the most of his start, as he recorded 16 points, to go along with three rebounds and three assists. Belvin was starting his first game of the season, as sophomore Jalen Washington (Bishop Montgomery HS) was held out of the game with an injury.
Also playing well was freshman Cerroy Chenault (Warren HS), who added nine points, five rebounds, four steals and three assists, with Harrison recording eight points off the bench.
