Playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the state, the Cerritos College men's soccer team notched a hard-fought 1-0 win over host Oxnard College on Friday afternoon. The Falcons extended their unbeaten streak to four (3-0-1) in a row, as they prepare to host Taft College at 3:00 p.m. next Tuesday. The Cougars (5-0-0), currently ranked #1 in the country by the United Soccer Coaches, and #1 in the state, ended the Cerritos season last year in penalty kicks at the CCCAA State Semifinals last season. The Falcons are currently ranked #3 in the state, but unranked nationally.

It was a hotly contested match against the Condors on Friday, with Cerritos getting the better scoring chances, as they possessed the ball the majority of the time. Maintaining a precision offensive approach, the Falcons put 15 shots on goal, but finally broke through in the 60th minute. Freshman Kevin Diaz (Connections Academy HS) controlled the ball and worked his way into Oxnard territory. Once he got close to the 18-yard box, he found freshman Carlos Perez (Mayfair HS), who finished the play with his second goal of the season.

The defense, led by sophomores Luis Lira (La Puente HS) and Esteban Camacho (Mayfair HS), also received a lot of help from the play of freshmen Eugene Martinez (Delille Academy, Belize), Ernesto Cueva (Bassett HS) and Jorge Cardona (Connections Academy HS). They turned Oxnard away and helped sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Aldama (North Torrance HS) record his second straight shutout.
