In the last two games, the Cerritos College men's soccer team has scored 15 goals, including an 8-1 South Coast Conference crossover win over visiting East Los Angeles College on Tuesday. In the seven games prior, the Falcons (12-1-2) scored a total of 16 goals. The nation's top-ranked team will play their third home game in a row on Friday at 4:00 p.m. when they host Los Angeles Harbor College in a South Division game.
Early in the game, the Falcons saw their chances slip away, including an offside call in the ninth minute on a beautiful header from sophomore Esteban Camacho (Mayfair HS) on a long crossing pass from sophomore Erick Gallinar (Connections Academy HS/UC Irvine). They officially got on the scoreboard in the 19th minute when freshman Oscar Penate (Connections Academy HS) worked the ball along the goal line and played a great pass to the foot of freshman Kevin Diaz (Connections Academy HS), who chipped the ball into an open corner of the net. A little over 10 minutes later, Diaz played a role in the Falcons second goal when his pass during a scramble in the box found freshman Bryan Villalobos (Salesian HS), who scored on a quick heel flick.
Things went the way of Cerritos in the second half, as they scored six times, with three of the goals coming in the span of 18 minutes. Villalobos picked up his second goal of the game in the 53rd minute when he scored on a tight angle after freshman Carlos Perez (Mayfair HS) did the hard work of tirelessly working the ball around the defense along the goal line and battled to keep possession before his pass. Looking to add to the score, Perez was tackled in the box by Guillermo Guzman, which resulted in a penalty kick. Gallinar stepped up and converted it into the Falcons fourth goal of the game.
The nicest goal of the game came in the 68th minute when the trio of Penate, Diaz and Camacho each touched the ball once, with their pinpoint passing resulting in a goal for Camacho, who chipped the ball past goalkeeper Horacio Aguirre. Camacho assisted on Penate's goal in the 71st minute, while Diaz headed home a beautiful crossing pass from sophomore Bryan Rodriguez (St. John Bosco HS) to make it a 7-0 game. Rodriguez finished off the scoring with an open net goal after the keeper came out of the net to play the ball, but couldn't get there in time.
Sophomore goalkeeper Jordan Aldama (North Torrance HS), who entered the game riding a shutout, went 87 minutes before a scramble in the corner resulted in the lone Huskies goal. Aldama, who came up with a beautiful diving save in the 54th minute against Alexis Arroyo, recorded six saves on the day.
