Taking on both community college and university athletes, the Cerritos College men's track and field team did well at the Beach Invitational over the weekend. The Falcons won four events against community colleges and also placed in the top five in three other events.

Sophomore sprinter Jacobi Hardy (Long Beach Wilson HS) won the 100 meters with a time of 11.10, while he joined Tyrell Martin (Dacula, GA HS), Colby Owens and Jaheim Williams (Compton HS) to win the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 43.24. They edged second place Orange Coast College by just .04 of a second. Williams posted a sixth place finish in the 100 meters at 11.16, with Martin recording a time of 22.68 to come in sixth place in the 200 meters.

Long jumper Marqis Turner (Centennial, NV HS) recorded a distance of 6.75 meters, which won the event, while freshman Alan Tabalas (Long Beach Millikan HS) cleared 1.91 meters in the high jump to finish in first place. The 3000-meter steeplechase saw sophomore Jaime Quinones (Downey HS) record a time of 9:52.90, which earned him a second place finish. Sophomore Pablo Calderon (Downey HS) did well in a pair of events, as he finished sixth in the 1500 meters (4:12.33), while his time of 8:57.98 put him in eighth place in the 3000 meters. There was a logjam for fourth place in the pole vault, which included Brian Lantan (Bell Gardens HS), who cleared 4.28 meters.

Going up against four-year competition brought out the best in sophomore Silas Hurst (Santiago HS/Washington State University) in the hammer. Although he came in 15th place overall, his distance of 49.81 is the fourth best in school history. Freshman Niko Mancini (Broadalbin-Perth, NY HS) also did well in the javelin, as his toss of 44.53 meters put him in 11th place overall.
