Competing in the open community college division at the George Kyte Classic at Northern Arizona University on Saturday, the Cerritos College men's cross country team finished in second place. The team will take the next week off before entering the Southern California Regional Invitational, which will take place at Chaffey College. Running the 4.5 mile course, the Falcons finished with 67 team points, which put them only behind Embry Riddle-Arizona University and second out of the six colleges that ran a full squad.
The Falcons comprised 13 of the 75 total runners on the day, with groups of them finishing in blocks. The first Cerritos runner to complete the course was Juan Flores (Warren HS), whose time of 24:20.1 put him in 14th place overall, while Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS) wasn't too far behind, as his time of 24:52.6 placed him 17th overall.
Finishing the race as a block of runners helped Cerritos secure their second place result. After Gerardo Rubio (Warren HS) as the third runner to complete the course for the Falcons in 25:09.2, which put him in 23rd place overall, a foursome all finished within nine seconds of each other. Those four consisted of Noah Addison (Long Beach Poly HS), who came in 25th overall with a clocking of 25:14.5, followed by Robert Guerrero (Long Beach Poly HS) in 25:15.4, Joshua Morales (Warren HS) in 25:17.5, while Louis Santibanez (Warren HS) crossed the finish line in 25:23.7.
