Led by the duo of Robert Guerrero (Long Beach Poly HS) and Joshua Melendez (St. Paul HS), the Cerritos College men's cross country team capped off their season with a fifth place finish at the 3C2A State Championships on Saturday. The Falcons, running at Woodward Park in Fresno, compiled 184 team points and just missed out on jumping ahead of fourth place Moorpark College, who had 177 team points. The top nine finishers were teams from Southern California, as the Falcons matched their fifth place finish they had at the Southern California Championships.

The four-mile course saw two runners from school that didn't have a full squad take the top two places, with Guerrero as the first Falcons runner to complete the course. His time of 21:29.4 was good enough for 19th overall, which earned him 2nd Team All-State honors. He held off four runners who finished less than a second behind him. Joining Guerrero on the 2nd Team All-State team was Melendez, who was clocked in 21:38.8, good enough for 28th place out of 192 total runners. Melendez was less than a second away from jumping past two other runners, as packs of competitors all finished in groups.

The Falcons also saw Louis Santibanez (Warren HS) come in 35th place on the day, as he turned in a time of 21:45.1, with teammate Tyler Villanueva (Warren HS) the next to complete the course. He was 49th overall and finished in a time of 22:02.2 and was the first of three runners all to finish within one second of each other. Closing out the team scoring for Cerritos was Gerardo Rubio (Warren HS), who turned in a 66th place time of 22:19.1. He was part of a large pack of runners, and pulled ahead of several runners to secure his place.
