On Tuesday, the Cerritos College softball team was defeated by El Camino College, 7-2 in a South Coast Conference game. The setback drops the Falcons overall record to 6-7, while they are now 2-6 in conference play. The team will look to turn things around on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. when they host Pasadena City College.

The Warriors (9-6, 5-3) opened up a 5-0 lead before Cerritos could get on the board. In the top of the sixth inning, freshman second baseman Kara Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) singled with two outs and came around to score on an inside the park home run from sophomore outfielder Itzel Soto (Long Beach Millikan HS).

Although that would be the only runs scored by the Falcons on the day, they had their share of runners on base. Cerritos opened the game with Soto reaching on a single, followed by a walk to sophomore outfielder Haley Davis (Mayfair HS). With two outs, freshman outfielder Aliya Velasquez (Northview HS) reached on an error to load the bases, but a ground ball ended the scoring opportunity.

A pair of Warrior errors and another walk to Davis loaded the bases for Cerritos in the second inning. But sophomore outfielder Brianna Spoolstra (Mayfair HS) flied out to deep right field for the final out of the inning. Hits by sophomore third baseman Kayla Aros (Torrance HS) and freshman catcher Dominique Jimenez (El Rancho HS) gave the Falcons runners on first and second base with one out. A ground out advanced both runners, but freshman designated player Chasity Martinez (South El Monte HS) lined out to center field for the third inning in a row where the Falcons missed out on getting on the board.

On the day, Soto and Aros posted a pair of hits, while Davis drew three walks. Unfortunately, five Cerritos errors led to three of the El Camino runs.
