Heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, the Cerritos College softball team was looking to hold off visiting Fullerton College on Saturday at Nancy Kelly Field. The Hornets (16-17-1) had just scored a run in the top of the inning to make it a 4-3 game until the Falcons (23-9) responded with eight runs to enact the run rule and posted a 12-3 non-conference win in six innings. Cerritos will host Chaffey College at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday in another non-conference game.

The eventful bottom of the sixth inning came after freshman pitcher Samantha Islas (Roosevelt HS) committed an error in the top of the sixth inning and walked three straight batters with two outs to force in the Hornets third run. Islas (16-5) was able to escape without anymore damage and then sat back and watched her teammates give her enough runs to end the game.

Freshman shortstop Miranda Diaz (California HS) led off the stanza with a single and advanced to third when freshman outfielder Alyssa Capps (Downey HS) laid down a sacrifice bunt that resulted in an error, allowing Diaz to move to third and Capps to second. Freshman first baseman Richere Leduc (California HS) followed by hitting into a fielder's choice, with Diaz out at the plate. Freshman second baseman Alyssa Sotelo (El Rancho HS) made it a 5-3 game with her RBI double, followed by a slow roller in front of the plate from freshman catcher Vicky Najera (El Rancho HS) that didn't result in a throw.

With two outs and the bases loaded, consecutive singles by freshman designated player Maddy Guillen (La Puente HS) and freshman outfielder Negasse Williams (Aliso Niguel HS) brought in single runs. Freshman pinch-hitter Makayla Torres (Sonora HS) followed with a bases loaded walk that made it 8-3. Diaz, who started the inning, kept the bases loaded with an RBI single, which brought up freshman pinch-hitter Malia Pieper (St. Paul HS). In just her third plate appearance of the season, she drove a ball to deep left-centerfield that cleared the bases and ended the game with a 12-3 Cerritos win.

Williams and Diaz each had three hits for the Falcons, while Sotelo (HR, two RBI), Najera and Guillen (three RBI) all had multiple hits for the Falcons.
