Wrestling: Trio of Falcons place at Fresno City Tournament

A trio of Cerritos College wrestlers placed at the non-scoring tournament in Fresno on Saturday. The Falcons, who had 16 entries on the day, saw freshman 184-pound Farzad Hashimi (El Dorado HS) take third place, while sophomore teammate Ben Setum (Pacifica HS) came in sixth place in the same weight. At 133 pounds, freshman Elijah Flores (Santa Fe HS) took six place. After taking a week off, Cerritos will compete in the East Los Angeles Brawl on November 23.

Hashimi started the day by recording a pair of wins by pin and then defeated Palomar College's Danny Cox, 9-7 in the quarterfinals. That was the first of three matches against Comet wrestlers, with Hashimi suffering a 6-5 loss in the semifinals against Ivan Nactali and capped off the day with a pin in 5:20 over Rabih Badrini for third place. Setum also won his first two matches, before a loss in the quarterfinals dropped him to the consolation round. He won two more matches, but was defeated, 3-1 by Modesto College's Adrian Perez Pulido in the fifth place match.

Flores split his first two matches, but then registered a pin in 1:30 and recorded a 21-4 technical fall in the consolation rounds. That sent him to the fifth place match, where he lost, 10-6 against Marcus Mireless of San Joaquin Delta College.

Other than those three finishers, only 125-pound Anthony Mason won three matches before being eliminated.
