In their non-conference match on Tuesday, the Cerritos College women's tennis team was defeated by Fullerton College, 7-2. The Falcons (1-4) look to get back into the win column on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. when they host Irvine Valley College in another non-conference match.

The day started with the Hornets sweeping the three doubles matches to take a commanding 3-0 team score lead. Cerritos only won five games in the three matches and had their backs against the wall in singles.

Cerritos dropped the first two singles matches at the top of the ladder, which clinched the win for Fullerton. Both Samantha Sanchez (Bellflower HS) and Clara Kim (Warren HS) were swept in straight sets, while freshman Stephanie Vega was in a tight battle in the #3 position on the ladder. After dropping the first set, 6-7 to Janet Shaiu, Vega regrouped and won the second set, 6-1 before pulling out a 10-6 win in the third set tie-breaker. Freshman Melissa Mayorga (El Rancho HS) was in the same position as Vega, as she lost her first set, 6-2 to Savanna Schreiner in the #4 spot. But a 6-4 win in the second set sent the match to a third-set tie-breaker, where Mayorga came out on the short end of a 10-7 decision.
