Facing another team with more size and depth, the Cerritos College volleyball team was swept by visiting El Camino College, 18-25, 11-25, 12-25 in their South Coast Conference South Division opener on Wednesday. The Falcons (0-13, 0-2) will host Long Beach City College in a 6:00 p.m. match on Friday.

Perennial state power El Camino (10-2, 2-0) had their hands full with Cerritos in the first set, who were tied 18-18. Trailing 11-6, freshman Cecilia Burroughs (Cabrillo HS) served eight straight points to give the Falcons a 14-11 lead. During that run, Burroughs recorded a pair of service aces and a kill, until the Warriors responded with five straight points to regain the lead. Holding an 18-17 lead after a Daisy Segura (Cerritos HS) kill, Cerritos was unable to score another point, as El Camino put together an 8-0 run of their own. Five of those points came on Falcon attack errors.

Cerritos couldn't stop long scoring runs by El Camino in the next two sets, who attacked the net with their size and hit at a .313 clip over the three sets. The Falcons did extend numerous rallies with their defensive prowess, led by Segura, who had 20 digs, while Suski posted 12 on the night.

Suski also led the team with nine kills, while freshman setter Sabrina Rivas (California HS) produced 18 assists and a pair of kills. Segura added six kills, while Burroughs finished with four, compared to the duo of Renee Brydon and Jaylin Motley, who combined for 27 kills for El Camino.
