Still looking to find that winning combination, the Cerritos College volleyball team was defeated by Los Angeles Harbor College in four sets on Friday, 19-25, 23-25, 25-18, 23-25. The Falcons (1-16, 1-9) will host Long Beach City College in their next match at 6:00p.m. next Wednesday.

In two of the three sets, the Falcons were in position to pull out the wins, but saw LA Harbor (9-9, 3-7) come back to post the win. Leading 23-20 in the second set, the Seahawks received a service ace, as well as a pair of kills from Rohyn Huss and scored the next five points to come away with the win. Needing to win the third set to extend the match, the Falcons slowly started to open up a lead and pulled away after taking a 21-17 advantage. A service error and attack error were followed by a kill from freshman Stephanie Malouf (Cerritos HS) to put the team at set point, which came on a Brooke Winquist (Carlsbad International School, Czechia) kill.

Cerritos took a 9-8 lead in the fourth set, but after LA Harbor scored six straight points to open a 14-8 advantage, it took a while for the Falcons to come back. The comeback was complete after a kill from Winquist knotted the set at 22-22. But the 26th kill of the night from Huss put the Seahawks on top, 23-22, with two attack errors accounting for the final two points for LA Harbor and securing the match.

Winquist led the team with 10 kills, while sophomore Sierra Hernandez-Hardy (Bishop Amat HS) produced nine kills, along with six digs and three service aces. Sophomore Alexia Torres (Downey HS) added eight kills and a pair of solo blocks, with sophomore setter Mirka Granoble (Downey HS) dishing out 34 assists and added a pair of kills. Sophomore Lizbeth Vega (Paramount HS) led the back row with 22 digs, with freshmen Gladys Garcia (Elizabeth Learning Center HS) and Andrea Garcia (Bellflower HS) combining for 13 kills.
