Playing some of the toughest competition in Southern California, the Cerritos College women's water polo team was able to post a win in their final game of the Riverside City Tournament. The Falcons (6-3) opened with losses to Golden West College (12-4) and the host Tigers (16-4) on Friday, then followed with a tough 13-10 loss to Citrus College before ending the day with a 15-6 win over Orange Coast College. The team will play their first home game of the season at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday when they host Pasadena City College in a South Coast Conference game.

Cerritos vs. Golden West: Taking on the undefeated Rustlers, the Falcons held them off the scoreboard in the second period to trail, 3-1 at halftime. But the start of the third period saw Golden West score four in a row before Cerritos countered with goals from Mia Carbajal (Schurr HS) and Amy Cervantes (Montebello HS/East Los Angeles College) to draw to within 7-3. However, the Rustlers scored four of the game's final five goals to post the win. Cervantes accounted for three of the team's four goals, with sophomore Mayra Olivas (Montebello HS) posting three of the team's 10 steals. Freshman goalie April Nuno (Cerritos HS) turned away six shots.

Cerritos vs. Riverside: The Falcons scored the first goal of each half, but the Tigers accounted for 11 goals in-between. Carbajal scored two of her three goals in the fourth period, with freshman Elizabeth Megaw (West HS) recording a team-high three steals. Nuno, who had eight saves, also posted a pair of steals, as did Carbajal.

Cerritos vs. Citrus: Leading 6-5 at halftime against a team they defeated by two goals twice last season, the Falcons saw the Owls overtake them with four straight goals in the third period. Cerritos picked up a power play goal from sophomore Carolina Medrano (Schurr HS) in the final minute of the third quarter to trail 9-7 with eight minutes remaining. Citrus stormed back with three of the first four goals in the fourth period, before Carbajal and Medrano each scored to get the team to within 12-10 with 1:17 remaining. But the Falcons did not score again and suffered a three-goal loss. Medrano led the team with four goals, while Cervantes posted four assists. Carbajal and Olivas accounted for seven of the team's nine steals, while Nuno turned away 13 shots.

Cerritos vs. Orange Coast: Carbajal was a scoring machine for the Falcons against the Pirates, as she scored a season-high seven goals on eight shots. She accounted for four of the team's six goals in the first period, with Olivas scoring twice in the second period to give Cerritos an 8-1 lead. It was an 11-1 score early in the third period after Carbajal scored twice, with Cevantes picking up one of her three tallies on the day, and also assisted on four goals. Along with her goal output, Cervantes also posted three steals and a pair of assists. Nuno recorded four saves in goal.
