Playing their first game of the season, the Cerritos College women's water polo team used the experience of returning All-American Mia Carbajal (Schurr HS) to lead them to an 11-8 non-conference win at Cypress College on Friday. Carbajal, who scored 96 goals in 2019, accounted for six of the Falcons goals and is now just the 12th player in school history to score over 100 career goals. The team will travel to Ventura College next Thursday for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference game.

Carbajal scored three of her goals in the first period to help Cerritos take a 5-1 lead, while they held a comfortable 7-2 advantage at intermission. The Chargers (0-1) were able to score five times to pull to within 9-7 heading into the fourth period, but that's when Carbajal came to the rescue again.

She scored both of the team's goals in the fourth, including the final one with 1:56 remaining to lock down the victory. Freshman Angelina Romero (Schurr HS) posted a trio of goals, while freshman Miranda Alvarez (Schurr HS) played an all-around game with two goals, four ejections draw and added three steals.

Freshman goalkeeper Leslie Meza (California HS) earned the win by playing three periods and finished with 13 saves.
