Aided by a pair of forfeit wins, the Cerritos College women's wrestling team posted a 26-24 win over NCAA Division II Vanguard University on Wednesday night. The Falcons will open conference action in two weeks, as they're schedule to host both Moorpark College and Palomar College.

Of the eight matches that took place against the Lions, Cerritos secured wins in four of the them, with one by pin. Sophomore Denise Figueroa (Mayfair HS) needed 2:46 to record a pin against Makayla Marques at 124 pounds to earn five more team points for the Falcons.

At 117 pounds, freshman Megan Sognefest (University HS) opened up an early first period lead against Mya Crespo and went on to post a 12-2 win, while freshman Rontaysia Payne (Dickson County, TN HS) had a close battle at 131 pounds before earning a 12-9 victory. Jaylene Martinez (Whittier HS) picked up the team's other win, as she shut out Devyn McCormick, 11-0 at 138 pounds. 

The Lions were winning in the team score until the 207-pound match, where they forfeited, giving Cerritos enough team points to win the match.
