In their final competition before the 3C2A State Championships, the Cerritos College women's wrestling team won three weights and had 17 placers at the Mt. San Antonio Tournament on Saturday, which was a non-scoring event. The state championships will take place on April 19 at East Los Angeles College.

Winning their respective weight classes were 110-pound Megan Sognefest (University HS), 160-pound Vida Beckel (Cypress HS) and 180-pound Kinsey Konrad (Redondo Union HS), while the duo of 180-pound Analize Lopez (Downey HS) and 207-pound Raven Ross (Long Beach Poly HS) all finished in second place.

Sognefest got things started by winning all three of her matches to take the championship. After winning her first match after her opponent lost due to an injury default, Sognefest posted a 10-0 win over teammate Vivian Nguyen (Westminster HS) in the semifinals before a pin of Eva Jimenez in 4:23. She opened an 8-4 lead after the first period before a pair of takedowns led to her win by pin. As for Beckel, she needed four wins to earn her championship, with the last two coming by way of a pin. After shutting out her first two opponents by respective 11-0 and 7-0 scores, Beckel pinned teammate Ximena Romero (Villa Park HS) in 1:01 of the semifinals, which sent her to the finals. In that match, Beckel pinned Natalie Besendiz in 4:25. Romero rebounded in her next two matches and finished in third place.

Konrad was one of three Falcon entries at 180 pounds, as they took the top three spots. She opened with a pin in 22 seconds before winning, 10-0 in the semifinals. In the championships, she Lopez in 1:48 after opening an 8-0 lead, with Lopez settling for second place. Isabella Pacheco (Kennedy HS), who came through the consolation bracket, defeated Shanira Killebrew of Bakersfield College for third place.

After escaping her first match at 207 pounds by a 3-1 score, Ross posted a pin, but suffered an 8-6 loss in the finals to Savanna Etheridge of Victor Valley College.

Helping the Falcons by coming in third place in their respective weight classes included 124-pound Denise Figueroa (Mayfair HS), 131-pound Rontaysia Payne (Dickson County, TN HS), 145-pound Saquoia Dubuque (Big Bear HS), Romero, Pacheco and 235-pound Keyscha Rodriguez (Paramount HS).
