For the second time in the last four years, the Cerritos College women's cross country team captured the South Coast Conference championship. The Falcons, who came in second place last year, also won the title in 2012. They earned the championship on Friday at Columbia Park in Palos Verdes when they recorded 29 team points and had the top three runners on the day. The team will now travel to San Diego next Friday for the Southern California Championships at Mission Bay Park. Earlier in the season, Cerritos ran that course for the SoCal Preview Meet and finished in fifth place.

Cerritos women won the SCC Championship Winning the individual championship was sophomore Marylu Pulido (Whittier HS), who completed the 5K course in a time of 20:36.9 to easly capture the title. Her closest competition came from a pair of teammates, who took the next two places. Sophomore Maria Orosco (Katella HS) registered a second place time of 21:00.4, with sophomore Stephanie Perea (Downey HS) crossing the finish line in 21:24.6.

The Falcons saw their first five runners earn their best team score all season, which was aided by the ninth place showing from sophomore Elsa Vazquez Vallin (Warren HS) and her time of 22:14.1. Rounding out the tea scoring was the 14th place finish for freshman Alexis Garfias (Schurr HS) with a clocking of 22:39.1.

Five other Cerritos runners competed on the day and they included Neiva Cuevas (Western HS; 23:02.6; 19th place); Adriana Velasco (Downey HS; 23:09.9; 22nd place); Brianna Gill (La Serna HS; 25:10.4; 33rd place); Kathia Munoz (Paramount HS; 25:46.3; 35th place) and Jaida Bailey (Vista del Lago HS; 29:44.7; 45th place).
