Continuing their successful season, the Cerritos College women's cross country team secured second place at the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday. It may have been a foregone conclusion that Mt. San Antonio College was winning the title, but the battle for second place ended with the Falcons compiling 59 team points and were able to hold off El Camino College, who came in third place with 80 team points. Next Friday, the team will run in the Southern California Championships at El Dorado Park in Long Beach.

Running a very competitive 5K course was sophomore Megan Feitz (Fountain Valley HS), who finished in sixth place overall with a time of 19:08.6, which earned her 1st Team all-conference honors for the second season in a row. She was just edged out of fifth place, as Mt. San Antonio's Ingrid Tamayo crossed the finish line in 19:06.4. Posting a 13th place time, and earning 2nd Team all-conference recognition was Evelyn Mejia (Norwalk HS), who turned in a time of 20:20.1, while Cerritos had their three runners finish the course in order.

Recording a 19th place time of Diana Perez (Norwalk HS) in 21:36.2, and was followed closely by Kimberly Ibarra (Warren HS), whose time of 21:37.4 put her in 20th place. The third Cerritos runner to finish that trio was Delilah Chavez (Lakewood HS), whose time of 21:45.9 put her in 21st place out of 57 total runners. The three also helped compile the team scoring.

Six more Cerritos runners competed on the day and they included Vanessa Rojas (Downey HS; 21:55.0; 24th place), Ariel Alvarez (Firebaugh HS; 21:56.8; 25th place), Lila Palmer (Long Beach Poly HS; 22:26.5; 29th place), Leslie Juarez (Warren HS; 23:37.9; 37th place), Claudia Rios (Paramount HS; 25:03.6; 43rd place) and Natalia Orta (Norwalk HS; 25:16.7; 46th place).
