W. Cross Country: Cerritos ends season with an 11th place finish at state championships

Competing in the 3C2A State Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno on Saturday, the Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in 11th place. There was a tight race to finish in the top 10, with College of the Sequoias securing that spot with 311 team points, as the Falcons finished in 11th place with 325 team points.

The top Cerritos finisher in the 5K race was Diana Raya Perez (Norwalk HS), whose time of 20:55.0 put her in 64th place overall out of 172 total runners. There were six runners who finished within six seconds of each other, with Raya Perez the fifth in that pack. Turning in a time of 21:11.0 for 74th place on the day was Evelyn Mejia (Norwalk HS), who was also part of a running pack. Seven runners finished four seconds apart, with Macias able to work her way into third of that group.

Not too far behind was Ariel Alvarez (Firebaugh HS) with an 83rd place time of 21:22.8 and was edged out by less than one second to move up a spot. As for Claudia Rios (Paramount HS), her time of 21:95.5 put her in 91st place on the day and finished in a dead heat with another runner. Closing out the team scoring for Cerritos was Jayla Barnwell (Warren HS) with a time of 21:36.4. She crossed the finish line .01 second ahead of teammate Lila Palmer (Long Beach Poly HS) and her time of 21:36.5, as the two finished in 98th and 99th places, respectively.

The final runner for the Falcons was Kimberly Ibarra (Warren HS), who was clocked in 22:45.7, which was good for 137th place overall.
