Competing in the South Coast Conference Championships on Friday at Heartwell Park in Long Beach, the Cerritos College women's cross country team finished in second place. The Falcons finished the day with 73 team points and only trailed Mt. San Antonio College, who won the event with 23 team points. Next up for Cerritos will be the Southern California Championships, which will take place on November 8 at Chaffey College.

Running the flat 5K course, the first Falcons runner to cross the finish line was Diana Raya Perez (Norwalk HS), whose time of 20:26.4 was good enough for 11th place on the day. Teammate Jayla Barnwell (Warren HS) was the next runner to complete the course, as she turned in a 12th place time of 20:36.5 out of 58 total runners. Cerritos was able to get their next three runners to finish in a block, which rounded out their team scoring. Ariel Alvarez (Firebaugh HS) was edged out from one spot higher, as her 15th place time of 20:42.9 was less than a second off the runner in front of her.

Evelyn Mejia (Norwalk HS) was 17th on the day when she recorded her time of 20:56.6 and led a small pack of runners that finished within four seconds of each other. Just outside that group was Lila Palmer (Long Beach Poly HS), who was clocked in 21:15.3, which put her in 21st place overall.

Also running for Cerritos were Claudia Rios (Paramount HS; 21:27.0; 24th place), Kimberly Ibarra (Warren HS; 21:53.8; 30th place) and Kaitlyn Macias (La Mirada HS; 23:37.11; 40th place)
