For the third season in a row, the Cerritos College women's cross country team has placed in the top seven teams at the Southern California Championships. On Friday at El Dorado Park in Long Beach, the Falcons finished in seventh place out of 23 schools with a total of 234 team points. Cerritos trailed only one school from the South Coast Conference and will now have an extra week to train for the 3C2A State Championships, which will take place on November 18 at Woodward Park in Fresno.

It was a battle for the competitors to finish ahead of others in the race, as there were many groups of runners crossing the finish line within seconds of each other. With her strong kick at the end, and despite a photo finish, sophomore Megan Feitz (Fountain Valley HS) earned 14th place, which garnered her 2nd Team All-Region honors. Her time of 18:48.7 put her in a deadlock with Sophie Moser-Smith of San Diego Mesa College, with Feitz earning the final all-region bid. There were seven runners in that group that all finished within five seconds of each other. After the first two miles, Feitz was in 38th place and she was able to battle her way into 14th place by the end of the 5K course.

Next to finish the race for the Falcons was Evelyn Mejia (Norwalk HS), who was clocked in 19:52.2, which put her in 40th place out of 158 total runners. It was another 15 seconds before Delilah Chavez (Lakewood HS) finished the course, as her time of 21:07.7 earned her a 68th place result. The next two Cerritos runners to cross the finish line were Vanessa Rojas (Downey HS) and Diana Perez (Norwalk HS), who placed 73rd and 76th places, respectively. Rojas finished the race in 21:21.5, while Perez was clocked in 21:23.9. Those five runners helped compile the team scoring for the Falcons.

Also running for the Falcons on the day were Kimberly Ibarra (Warren HS; 21:29.9; 79th place) and Ariel Alvarez (Firebaugh HS; 21:42.2; 83rd place)
