Two weeks ago, the Cerritos College football team was playing for the Northern Conference championship, but losses in their final two games have put them in a post-season bowl game. The Falcons (6-4, 4-2), the second place team out of the Northern Conference, will be hosting Grossmont College (5-5, 3-3), tied for third in the Southern Conference in a bowl game at Falcon Stadium at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Western State Bowl.

Cerritos finished the regular season ranked #7 after suffering losses to College of the Canyons (27-10) and Moorpark College (28-19), while the Griffins are coming off a 48-14 win over Palomar College in the final game of the regular season, which snapped a four-game losing streak.

Offensively, the Falcons are led by sophomore running back Elijhaa Penny (Norwalk HS/College of the Canyons), who has run for 1,175 yards and 18 TDs, while sophomore quarterback Cody Clements (La Habra HS/Washington State University) has completed 127-of-220 passes for 1,665 yards and 12 touchdowns. Freshman wide receiver X'avier Shepherd (Lakewood HS) leads the team with 30 receptions for 411 yards and five touchdowns.

Freshman linebacker Josias Amisone (Carson HS) leads the defensive group with 60 tackles, with sophomore defensive tackle David Moala (Serra HS) posting 47 stops with six tackles for loss and three quarterback sacks.

The Griffins are a throwing team that rely on the arm of quarterback William Abt, who has thrown for 3,617 yards and 34 touchdowns, with 11 different players catching at least one score. Tim Patrick has pulled in 49 passes for 926 yards and eight touchdowns to lead the way, while Nickolas Kurtz (33-533-8), Stevon Jones (32-502-6) and D'Angelo Bowie (23-371-7) are also targets. They also have a 1,000-yard rusher in Treyous Jarrells, who has run for 1,120 yards and 15 touchdowns.
